Prospects of Personal Brand and Effective Communication

It was our pleasure to have Alumni Mr. Nikhil Kulkarni, founder of Darwin Tech, which is a travel technology B2B startup. He has worked KPMG's IT Advisory team working across Financial Services, Telecom, IT/ITeS, and Retail in domains of core and emerging technologies for almost 11 years. Then he quit the company as Associate Director to pursue his aspirations and build his own Personal Brand and become the Co-Founder of Darwin Tech. All thanks to Prof. T. Prasad for arranging such an insightful session. His session majorly focussed on Personal Branding, Consulting, and Effective Communication.

Why Personal branding is important?

Effective personal branding will differentiate you from the competition and allow you to build trust with prospective clients and employers. By building your own personal brand, you give people a chance to reach out to you for your work. He spoke about the importance of having blogs, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter which is of utmost importance in this digitalized world.

Consulting

As a professional consultant, it is 80% communication, 5% research. He shared useful insights regarding various tools that will help us as a consultant. He told us about the important tools required in the consulting profession amongst which MS Office is most important. Apart from that, one must master skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. It was very insightful to hear from him about the challenges he faced and overcome as a consultant and learned the skill to align his thought process with the clients.

Effective Communication

He explained the hierarchical structure to organize our ideas and supporting evidence. We should follow IDFL and MECE techniques.

IDFL: We should be able to organize according to Ideas, Data, Facts, and Logic

MECE: It stands for Mutually Exclusive Collectively Exhaustive. We should be able to cover all the points and avoid redundancy.
